About Lake Holiday

Lake Holiday is a 328-acre lake surrounded by a 1,500-acre community with about 2,000 lots. Currently, there are more than 1,700 homes.

The lake is approximately 2-1/3 miles long with more than 8 miles of shoreline, and is located in unincorporated LaSalle County, between the towns of Sandwich and Somonauk. Lots are approximately one-third of an acre, and for single-family residential use only.

The lake offers boating, fishing, swimming, skiing, tennis and wide variety of other summer and winter recreational activities. Golf courses are nearby. There are two boat launch ramps, one on the Somonauk side at the privately operated Marina, another on the Sandwich side. A campground and Clubhouse are available for member use only. There are 2 sand beaches around the lake for member and guest use.

The Lake Holiday Property Owners Association is a non-profit organization managed by an elected board of directors. Home owners and lot owners pay an annual membership dues that is used to maintain the lake and the roads, as well as the office, security and maintenance staffs. Fire & ambulance services are provided by the two nearby towns.

Lake Holiday is close to schools, shopping, medical facilities, banks, Sandwich Airport and other facilities. It’s convenient to DeKalb, Ottawa and the Greater Chicagoland area. There is easy access to I-88, I-55, I-80 and other major state routes, such as 34, 23, 52 and 71. Most places can be reached through excellent blacktopped backroads.

Utilities are provided by Commonwealth Edison, Northern Illinois Gas, Frontier Communications (formerly Verizon & GTE), Lake Holiday Utilities (water) and Comcast Cable. Each lot has community water, and homes have private septic systems.

For its beginnings, land on both sides of Somonauk Creek was purchased by Illinois Wildlife Association, a subsidiary of U.S. Land, Inc. In July of 1964, U.S. Land was acquired by Boise Cascade Corp., which develops lake communities. The 45-foot-high dam was completed in August 1965. The first home was built in 1966.
